Cornus Chorus II explores the harmonious relationship between human intervention and natural cycles, creating a visual metaphor for ecological balance. This site-specific installation at Oare Gunpowder Works connects industrial history with ecological restoration, challenging the notion that human presence in the natural world is inherently destructive. Suspended from an aged sweet chestnut branch, intricately woven red dogwood spheres create visual rhythm against the post-industrial landscape. The installation builds directly on previous work, incorporating this season's freshly harvested withies into evolving forms. These sculptural elements transform with changing light and weather conditions, inviting contemplation of mindful intervention and cyclical regeneration in landscapes shaped by both industrial legacy and natural reclamation.

Cornus Chorus

Cornus Connection lends ancient craftsmanship and contemporary artistry, this sculpture weaves together the primordial origins of human technological innovation. Fashioned from foraged Cornus branches delicately woven into a form echoing the iconic Acheulean hand axe, the centrepiece is an actual hand axe knapped using traditional stone tools. This convergence of organic and artifactual elements serves as a meditation on the enduring human creative impulse. It reminds us that our ancestors' ingenious creations, though rudimentary, were instilled with the same profound drive for expression that fuels artistic endeavours today. In seamlessly fusing the archeological and the aesthetic, the work transcends temporal boundaries, connecting us to the shared wellspring of creativity flowing through our species for over a million years.
