SALTINGS is an immersive installation which brings saltmarsh landscapes into the gallery through moving image and sound. Presented across dual monitors, the work draws viewers into the slow rhythms of marshland, transforming the gallery into a space of quiet attention.
Experimental film captures reeds and salt marsh in motion, with each frame holding deliberate imperfections that reflect nature’s continual state of change. Poem fragments printed on the floor act as thresholds, marking points of transition and inviting viewers to cross into the work rather than observe from a distance.
A soundscape of plants, birds, and water plays through hidden speakers, creating a layered sensory environment. Together, image, text, and sound construct a place within a place, where marshlands exist simultaneously as physical reality and conceptual territory.
Exploring salt marshes as liminal edgelands, spaces between land and water, Saltings values embodied, personal connection over panoramic viewing. The work reveals the quiet poetry of overlooked ecosystems and the subtle rhythms that shape these transitional landscapes.
