FALLOW | PAUSE | BLOOM
Fallow | Pause | Bloom is a site-responsive installation that relocates a vintage beach windbreak into post-industrial landscapes. Its vivid striped surface, drawn from Kent’s coastal vernacular, is screen printed in bold black type with the words FALLOW | PAUSE | BLOOM, then re-sited within brownfield environments shaped by industry and transition.
Installed within these overlooked spaces, the windbreak creates a temporary enclosure, a held moment within open ground. The work invites a slowing down, encouraging visitors to reconsider such sites not only as remnants of past use, but as places of potential rest and renewal.
Drawing on the agricultural meaning of fallow as a deliberate period of recovery, the piece proposes pause as an active condition rather than absence. In parallel, it reflects on creative practice itself, suggesting that intervals of rest are integral to growth.
