Meteria Medica addresses Canterbury Cathedral's horticultural heritage. It prompts reflection on humanity's bond with nature. An archive of preserved specimens which adorn the library shelves. The original cathedral grounds nurtured plants for remedies, brewing, dyeing, and sustenance. Sweet chestnut, black walnut, marigold, charcoal, and blackberries stain beautifully wound linen yarns. Exposed to sunlight, these fragile dyes will gradually fade to parchment brown. In this they mirror the once-vibrant Bayeux Tapestry, now a muted palette. It is suggested by many scholars that the famous Bayeux Tapestry was actually created in Canterbury, connecting this cathedral site directly to one of history's most significant textile narratives.Canterbury Cathedral Lodge
