Salt Lines: Stories from a Winter Marsh Walk.
Salt Lines: Stories from a Winter Marsh Walk. In January 2025, I designed and led a three-hour sensory journey along the Saxon Shore Way at Oare Marshes, Faversham. This walk challenged traditional psychogeographic approaches by emphasising collective experience, interconnectedness, and sensitive engagement with the landscape. Fourteen diverse participants—archaeologists, herbalists, artists, and students—braved winter conditions that ultimately deepened our connection. Through deep listening exercises at Oare Gunpowder Nature Reserve, collaborative storytelling, and creative documentation, we explored ecological interconnectedness and challenged conventional narratives of landscape. The project incorporated multiple documentation methods, including written reflections on fabric scraps—where participants distilled their experience into just three words—sketches, photographs, and found objects. These materials were later assembled into a collaborative concertina book, creating a collective archive that honoured multiple perspectives of our shared journey through this threshold landscape.
